After Massage Advice

After a sports massage, you may experience some of the following side effects. These are all normal, whilst your body is rebalancing itself and eliminating unwanted toxins, so please don’t worry.

  • Some soreness/redness, especially on any areas that deep work was carried out

  • Nausea

  • More frequent urination

  • Aching muscles

  • Headaches

  • Feeling thirsty

  • Heightened emotions

  • Feeling tired/sleepy

  • Flu/cold like symptoms

These symptoms should pass withing 24/48hrs, depending on the amount of toxin build up within your body.

If dry cups were used during your treatment, the red circles that vary intensity, may last 3-7 days after treatment

In order to gain the maximum benefit from you massage, it is advisable to allow your body to respond to the effects. We recommend the following advice for the first 24 hours after your treatment:

  • Drink plenty of water. This ensures that your body is hydrated and helps the lymph and circulatory system remove waste products from your body.

  • Refrain from drinking alcohol and caffeine if possible as this is adding more toxins back into your body can be dehydrating.

  • Try to allow enough time for recovery and find time for relaxation. Naps are perfect for this!

  • Keep activity light and not too strenuous. Stretching and walking is perfect.

  • Avoid heavy meals, eat light meals so the body can concentrate on the healing process and encourage detoxification.
